My Personal Blog Features:

From the Archives:
I like to go back and see what was written for kids to read during the war.  With this feature, I read and review those books. Writers and their readers didn’t know what was going to happen to them moment to moment, so they offer a very different perspective on the war.

Sunday Funnies:
This feature will present some of the funnies I have collected over time to give readers a sense of what they were like.World War II was a total war and so it impacted people totally.  All aspects of life were devoted to the war, none more so that the objects of popular culture.  And when the world went to war, so did many of the "funnies" that were read in the daily and Sunday papers.  And so did comic books.

Movie Matinee:
I'm a big movie fans and occasionally will review a movie that would appeal to kids or teens and uses World War II as a theme.  These usually are about the home front, where my interest lies, and I don't ever watch war movies about combat.

Your Hit Parade:
One of the questions I am most frequently asked is whether I listen to World War II songs.  I love music and listen to it all the time.  And yes, I do have a WWII playlist - one for humorous songs, one for sentimental songs and one for patriotic songs, all written and performed during the war.  Occasionally, I like to share a song and it's history on Saturday, which is when the original Your Hit Parade was heard on the radio.

World War I:
Zoe at Playing by the Book recently suggested I start a blog about WWI.  Unfortunately, I already have two blogs, The Children's War and Randomly Reading, so I not sure a third would be doable.  However, I have run across some pretty good literature for kids and teens about WWI and so I have decided to start including some of those here.  After all, the First World War also had a powerful impact on the home front.

Memes, Challenges:
I like participate in some weekly memes, and I am presently participating in several reading challenges.
